Electronic Specialties Inc 710 500 Amp Carbon Pile Load Tester

SKU CH-MZRF-D8YJ0

Tests 12 V batteries up to 1,000 CCA with a 500 A adjustable carbon pile, 15-second audible test, dual meters and alternator/starter checks

  • Variable 500 amp carbon pile simulates real cranking loads
  • Tests 12V batteries up to 1,000 CCA or 160 Ah
  • 15 second test cycle with audible tone confirms results
  • Dual color-coded meters show voltage and current simultaneously
  • Checks alternator charging voltage and starter current draw

Carbon Pile Load Tester for 12V Systems

The Electronic Specialties 710 applies a variable load up to 500 amp using a carbon pile. It tests 12V batteries rated as high as 1,000 Cold Cranking Amps or 160 Ah. Technicians use it to simulate actual cranking loads and evaluate alternator charging voltage plus relative starter current draw.

Adjustable Load and Dual Meters

A 500 amp adjustable carbon pile creates the variable load while large dual meters show battery voltage and load current at the same time. Color coding on the meters gives a simple pass or fail reading. An audible tone marks the 15 second test duration and a temperature compensation chart is included for reference.

Heavy Duty Clamps and Copper Cables

The unit ships with 500 amp side terminal clamps and heavy-duty stranded copper cables built for high current. No internal battery is required because the tester draws power from the battery under test. The analog meter movement and carbon pile construction suit workshop bench use rather than handheld field work.

Questions about this item

How often will the carbon pile in the 710 tester need replacement under normal use?

The carbon pile is a wear component; lifespan depends on how frequently you run 500 amp loads and whether you allow cool-down between tests.

What limit appears first when running repeated 15-second tests at 500 amps on the 710?

Heat buildup in the carbon pile and cables is the first constraint; allow adequate cooling between tests to avoid overheating.

How hot and loud does the 710 get during all-day battery and alternator testing?

The carbon pile generates noticeable heat and an audible tone sounds during each 15-second test; no fan noise is present.
