Guitar Learning Software for Children

eMedia My Guitar is a Windows download that teaches acoustic guitar to children aged five and up. The course contains 60 lessons designed by instructor Kevin Garry, Ph.D., who brings 25 years of teaching experience. An animated character called Gary the Guitar guides the student through tuning, chords and tablature reading. Familiar songs such as Jingle Bells and Yankee Doodle are used as practice material.

Replaces In-Person Beginner Lessons

This software replaces the first stage of traditional private tuition for a fraction of the recurring cost. The jump is worth it when a family wants structured, self-paced tuition at home without scheduling weekly appointments. Interactive games and an automatic tuner reinforce each lesson, while the animated fretboard shows finger placement in real time. Instant feedback listens via the computer microphone and highlights notes played correctly.

Suits Parents Wanting Structured Home Tuition

The programme suits parents who want a guided curriculum that tracks progress through games and visual feedback. It is not for students who have already mastered basic chords and strumming patterns. It is not for households that only have macOS or Linux devices, because the download supports Windows XP through Windows 8 only. It is not for learners who require a live teacher to correct posture or technique in real time.

Questions about this item

Does the download need a CD drive or an internet connection to install on Windows?

It is a download so no CD drive is needed; an internet connection is required to get the installer and to activate the licence on Windows XP, Vista, 7 or 8.

Which step do users often miss when setting up the Instant Feedback feature?

They forget to enable the computer microphone in Windows sound settings, so the software cannot hear the guitar and highlight correct notes.

Will the Animated Fretboard or game content need a separate update later?

All 60 lessons, the Animated Fretboard and the interactive games are included in the download; no extra content packs or subscriptions are required.
