Connects a SATA hard drive or SSD to a Molex 4-pin power connector using 20AWG copper wire and a 6-inch cable
This 6-inch cable converts a standard Molex 4-pin male connector from a power supply into a SATA 15-pin female connector, allowing newer SATA hard drives or SSDs to draw power from older PSUs. It suits desktop or server builders who have exhausted native SATA power leads but still have free Molex plugs. The 20AWG copper conductors deliver 12 V and 5 V rails to compatible 2.5 and 3.5 inch SATA devices.
Passive wiring produces no audible noise and adds negligible heat inside the chassis. The 20AWG copper conductors handle the 12 V and 5 V currents required by typical SATA drives without measurable voltage drop across the 6-inch length. No active cooling or additional power budget is needed beyond what the supply already provides for the attached drive.
The adapter simply bridges the legacy Molex plug to a SATA power receptacle, letting you install a SATA drive without replacing the power supply. No software, drivers or extra connectors are included; the only change is the physical power interface. Builders needing more than one SATA device will require additional adapters or a PSU with native SATA leads.

Plug the Molex 4-pin male end into the power supply LP4 connector until it clicks, then attach the SATA 15-pin female end to the drive; the step often missed is fully seating the SATA connector so the 12V and 5V pins make solid contact.
No scheduled maintenance is required; inspect the cable if you rebuild the system and replace it only if the insulation is cracked, the pins are bent or the connector retention feels loose.
The 20AWG copper conductor sets the current ceiling; on a 6-inch run the voltage drop stays negligible, so the practical limit is the Molex source rating rather than the cable itself.
