The EN-Labs U2RJ458152B adds a 10/100 Mbps RJ45 Ethernet port to any device with a USB 2.0 socket. It is aimed at ultrabooks, tablets and desktops that lack a built-in LAN port or have a damaged one. The adapter draws power from the USB bus and uses a compact pigtail cable for easy transport.

Driver-free operation on modern systems

No driver is required for Windows 8, Mac OS X 10.9 or newer, enabling true plug-and-play use. Older platforms such as Windows 7, Vista, XP, Mac OS X 10.5 and 10.6 need a driver installation. The RTL8152B chipset also supports Wake-on-LAN and IEEE 802.3x flow control without extra software.

USB 2.0 bus limits throughput to 100 Mbps

Although the USB 2.0 interface runs at 480 Mbps, the Ethernet side is capped at 100 Mbps by the Fast Ethernet PHY. Buyers who need gigabit speeds should choose a USB 3.0 or 3.1 adapter instead.
