What this adapter does

The EN-Labs USB-C to HDMI adapter connects a USB-C device that supports DisplayPort Alternate Mode to an HDMI display. It carries both video and audio signals through a six-inch cable with an aluminium housing.

Who it suits and who it does not

It suits owners of listed laptops such as the 2016 and 2017 MacBook Pro, Dell XPS 13 and 15, Yoga 900, 910 and 920, HP Spectre x360 13 and 15, and phones including the Galaxy S8, S9, Note 8, Mate 10 and LG V20. It will not work with USB-C ports that lack DisplayPort Alternate Mode, so buyers who need a pure USB-C to HDMI converter without that requirement should look elsewhere.

How it fits into a setup

The adapter plugs directly into the host USB-C port and accepts a standard HDMI cable rated for version 1.4 or 2.0. It supports resolutions up to 4K at 30 Hz and 1080p at 60 Hz, freeing the user from a separate dock while adding a single external screen. Windows machines may require updated USB-C or Thunderbolt drivers from the system maker.

Questions about this item

Does my laptop need a USB-C port with DisplayPort Alt Mode to use this EN-Labs adapter?

Yes, the adapter only works with USB-C sources that support DisplayPort Alternate Mode; Windows machines may also require updated USB-C or Thunderbolt 3 drivers from the manufacturer.

Will this adapter drive a 4K 30 Hz monitor while I keep my older 1080p 60 Hz display connected?

The adapter outputs up to 4K at 30 Hz and 1080p at 60 Hz, so an older 1080p 60 Hz screen will work at its native rate when the adapter is set to that resolution.

How can I verify the adapter is passing both video and audio after I plug it in?

Check that the external display appears in your OS display settings and that the HDMI output shows as an available audio device in sound preferences.
