Extreme Networks 10GBase-T SFP+ Module

The Extreme Networks 10338 is a new SFP+ transceiver that adds a single RJ-45 10GBase-T port to compatible servers and switches. It provides copper-based 10 Gigabit Ethernet connectivity over standard twisted-pair cabling for data-centre and enterprise networks.

Best for copper 10G uplinks

This module suits administrators who need 10 GbE links over existing Cat6a or Cat7 copper infrastructure without deploying fibre. It is not for environments that require fibre SFP+ optics, longer reach than copper allows, or densities that demand multiple ports per module.

Deciding spec: 10GBase-T RJ-45 interface

The defining characteristic is the single RJ-45 10GBase-T interface, which locks the link speed to 10 Gbps over copper and determines compatibility with the host SFP+ cage and cabling plant. Verify that your switch or server SFP+ ports support 10GBase-T modules before purchase.

Questions about this item

How much power does the Extreme Networks 10338 SFP+ module draw when running 10GBase-T traffic all day?

The module operates within standard SFP+ power limits for 10GBase-T RJ-45 copper links.

What port type must my switch or server already have to accept this Extreme Networks 10338 module?

An SFP+ cage that supports 10GBase-T copper modules is required.

Will this Extreme Networks 10338 module link at 10GBase-T speeds with older 1GbE RJ-45 ports on my existing gear?

The module is specified for 10GBase-T; compatibility with 1GbE ports depends on the host equipment negotiation.
