Server-grade CPU heatsink for X3650 M5

This heatsink is built as a direct-fit CPU air cooler for the X3650 M5 server platform. It targets system integrators and IT teams maintaining Lenovo ThinkSystem rack units that require OEM-standard thermal components. The assembly uses part numbers 00KA517 and 00KC718 to ensure correct alignment with the chassis mounting points and airflow path.

Replacement cooler for worn or missing OEM units

The part replaces the original factory heatsink when it is damaged, lost during a board swap or degraded after long-term deployment. It is not suited for custom PC builds, workstation towers or any platform outside the X3650 M5 family because the mounting pattern and height profile are proprietary. The upgrade is worth it only when restoring a qualified server to its validated thermal specification.

Questions about this item

Does the 00KA517 cooler use the standard mounting holes on the X3650 M5 system board?

The 00KA517 and 00KC718 heatsinks are designed for the X3650 M5 chassis and align with the native CPU socket retention mechanism on that platform.

What is the correct orientation when seating the 00KC718 heatsink onto the processor?

Align the captive screws with the mounting posts, lower the heatsink evenly, then tighten the screws in a diagonal sequence to ensure full contact with the CPU heat spreader.
