External Blu-ray Drive for Laptops

This USB 3.0 external drive reads Blu-ray and HD DVD discs and writes to DVD-R at up to 8x and CD at up to 24x. It connects to Windows 11, 10, 7, Linux and Mac OS without extra drivers. The slim, portable design suits users who need optical media access on computers lacking an internal drive.

Write Speeds and Media Limits

DVD-R writing reaches 8x while CD-R writing reaches 24x, giving quick backups for standard discs. The drive cannot write to Blu-ray media, so archiving large high-definition libraries is not possible.

Bus Power and Quiet Operation

Power comes entirely from the USB 3.0 or 2.0 port, so no external adapter is required. The mechanism runs quietly during typical playback and burning tasks. Peak power draw stays within standard USB limits, making it reliable on ultraportable laptops and desktop front-panel ports alike.

Questions about this item

Will the USB 3.0 connection work with my laptop's older USB 2.0 ports?

Yes, the drive is backward compatible with USB 2.0 ports so it will function on older laptops, though data transfer will run at USB 2.0 speeds.

How can I verify the drive is writing at the rated 8x DVD-R and 24x CD speeds after I plug it in?

Open your burning software and check the selected write speed; it should list 8x for DVD-R and 24x for CD media when compatible discs are inserted.

Does the package include a USB cable and do I need to buy any separate power adapter?

A USB 3.0 cable is included for both data and power; no external power adapter is required.
