USB-C Blu-ray Player for Laptops

This external slot-in drive reads Blu-ray and HD DVD discs and writes DVDs and CDs through a USB-C connection. It is aimed at MacBook, ultrabook and laptop owners whose machines lack an internal optical drive. The included USB-C-to-USB-A adapter lets it work with older USB ports as well.

Capacity and Burning Limits

The drive supports BD-ROM media and writes to 8.5 GB dual-layer DVDs, 4.7 GB single-layer DVDs and 700 MB CDs. Write speed reaches 8X (10.8 MB/sec) for DVDs and read speed reaches 24X (3.6 MB/sec) for CDs. It does not write Blu-ray discs and cannot read discs larger than 128 GB.

Thermals, Noise and Power

The slim .7-inch aluminium enclosure weighs 11.95 ounces and draws power directly from the host port, so no external adapter is needed. In normal use the Panasonic UJ-120 mechanism runs quietly with only a faint seek noise. Heat stays low enough that the chassis remains comfortable to touch during extended read or write sessions.
