What this drive does

The FANTEC external player reads Blu-ray and HD DVD discs and writes to CD and DVD media. It connects through a USB 2.0 port and works with Windows XP, 2003, Vista, 7, 8, Linux and Mac OS 10 systems. The unit draws power from a second USB cable when the host port cannot supply enough current. No internal drive bay is required.

Disc formats that matter

This is a Blu-ray and HD DVD player that also burns CD-R, CD-RW, DVD-R and DVD-RW media. It does not write to Blu-ray or HD DVD discs. Buyers who need to author Blu-ray or HD DVD media cannot use this drive for that purpose.

Heat, noise and power in use

The drive is powered entirely over USB 2.0, with a supplementary power cable for desktop ports that limit current. It has no fan, so operation is silent apart from disc spin noise. Power draw stays within the USB 2.0 specification during normal playback and burning.
