Questions about this item

Does the drive include a USB cable, or do I need to buy one separately?

The unit is powered entirely through the USB port, so the required cable is included; no separate power adapter or cable purchase is needed.

Should I choose this model if I want to write Blu-ray discs as well as DVDs and CDs?

This model reads Blu-ray and HD DVD media but only writes to DVD±R at up to 8× and CD-R at up to 24×; it cannot write Blu-ray discs.

What does the 8× DVD write speed mean when I am actually burning a disc?

At 8× the drive writes a single-layer DVD-R in roughly 8 to 10 minutes, while a CD-R at 24× finishes in about 3 to 4 minutes, assuming the media and host can sustain those rates.
