Mini PCIe to USB adapter with SIM slot
The Fervit Mini PCIe to USB Adapter with SIM Slot lets a desktop or embedded system use a USB-bus Mini Card such as a 3G, 4G LTE, GPS or HSPA module. It provides a standard SIM card slot so the inserted modem can connect to a mobile network carrier. The adapter plugs into a USB port and does not support PCIe-bus Mini Cards such as Wi-Fi modules.
Sustained operation with USB-bus Mini Cards
The adapter is designed for continuous use with USB-interface Mini Cards including GSM, GPRS, CDMA, WLAN, WWLAN, HSPA, GPS, WiMAX and LTE modules. It converts the Mini Card signal to USB without requiring a PCIe lane, so the host system sees a standard USB device during long data sessions. Only USB-bus Mini Cards are supported; PCIe-bus cards will not function.
Practical limits of the Mini Card interface
The adapter accepts Mini Cards that implement a USB 2.0 or earlier bus, which caps throughput at the USB 2.0 high-speed rate. Cards that need a PCIe link, such as Wi-Fi modules, are electrically incompatible and will not work. The SIM slot follows the standard Mini Card form factor, so any full-size SIM from a network provider can be used.

Questions about this item
How much power does the adapter draw when a 3.5G or LTE mini-card runs continuously?
The adapter itself is passive and draws negligible power; total consumption depends on the USB mini-card you install, which is powered from the host USB port.
What must I already own for this adapter to provide a cellular connection?
You need a USB-bus Mini PCIe WWAN/LTE module and an active standard SIM card; the adapter only converts the card-edge to USB and holds the SIM.
Will a Mini PCIe Wi-Fi card I already have work in this adapter?
No — the adapter only supports USB-interface mini-cards such as GSM, HSPA, GPS or LTE modules; PCIe-bus Wi-Fi cards are not compatible.
