USB-C to DC 7.4x5.0mm adapter for HP laptops

This Fervit adapter converts a USB-C Power Delivery source into a 7.4x5.0mm barrel connector used by many HP laptops. It accepts up to 100W from a compatible USB-C charger and passes 20V at 5A to the laptop. The unit is aimed at owners of barrel-jack HP notebooks who want to use a modern USB-C power brick.

Real-time wattage display and PD trigger

An integrated LED screen shows live voltage, current and power so users can confirm the negotiated rate. A built-in 100W PD emulator trigger requests 20V/5A from the source charger automatically. The adapter also works with 65W sources and voltages between 18.5V and 20.5V, but full 100W output requires a 100W-rated charger and cable.

Plug-and-play installation with barrel-fit caveat

The alloy-shelled dongle is fully plug-and-play and needs no drivers or configuration. The only common issue is a mismatched barrel size; the 7.4x5.0mm plug must match the laptop's DC jack exactly or it will not seat and power will not flow. Users should verify the jack dimensions before purchase.

Questions about this item

Will the 7.4×5.0 mm barrel connector or the USB-C plug wear out first with daily insertion?

The alloy-shell barrel plug is built for repeated mating cycles, while the USB-C male end follows the same durability rating as standard PD cables; neither component has a published cycle limit.

What caps the sustained output when a 100 W charger and cable are used continuously?

The adapter is rated for a maximum of 100 W at 20 V / 5 A; the internal PD trigger and the barrel interface both share that ceiling, so 100 W is the hard limit.

How warm does the alloy housing get and does the LED display add noticeable heat during all-day charging?

The metal shell acts as a passive heatsink for the 100 W throughput, and the low-power LED display draws negligible current, so the unit stays warm but within normal operating temperature.
