100G QSFP28 Passive DAC Cable

This one-metre passive direct-attach copper cable uses QSFP28 connectors on both ends. It is built for 100 Gigabit Ethernet links between switches, routers, servers and storage gear in the data centre.

1-metre reach of passive copper

Passive twinax construction limits the link to one metre at the full 25.78125 Gbps per lane. The cable draws power from the host ports at +3.3 V and requires no external supply. Longer runs need active or optical alternatives.

AWG30 twinax for short rack links

The 30 AWG conductors keep the assembly thin for dense patching but restrict the maximum distance to one metre. Buyers needing longer reach or fibre media must choose a different cable type.

Questions about this item

Which length and gauge should I select for a 100G QSFP28 link?

The cable is a 1 metre, 30AWG passive twinax assembly built for 100G QSFP28 ports.

What throughput does the 25.78125Gbps per channel figure deliver in a live system?

Four lanes at 25.78125Gbps each provide 100Gbps aggregate bandwidth for Ethernet, Fibre Channel or InfiniBand traffic.

Which standards govern the QSFP28 interface and what do they limit in practice?

The cable meets IEEE 802.3by 25GBASE-CR, SFF-8402 and SFF-8432, capping reach at 1 metre and requiring a 3.3V supply.
