USB-to-TRRS adapter for headsets

This white USB to 3.5 mm adapter adds a single TRRS port that carries both stereo output and mono microphone input. It is aimed at users whose laptop or desktop lacks a working combo jack or who need a quick replacement for a faulty onboard audio socket. The device draws power and digital audio from the USB port and converts it to analogue for the 3.5 mm plug.

Limited to CTIA TRRS and USB audio output

The adapter only accepts CTIA-wired TRRS headsets; TS and TRS plugs will not work for microphone or may not work at all. Audio travels one way — from the USB host to the 3.5 mm jack — so it cannot capture line-level signals or act as a recording interface. PS3 is explicitly unsupported because its USB ports do not carry audio, and vehicle infotainment systems, TVs, amplifiers, CD players and Xbox consoles are also incompatible.

Replaces a broken or missing combo jack

It upgrades a system that has no functional 3.5 mm headset port or where the internal audio codec has failed, provided the OS supports USB audio class drivers. The jump is worth it when you need immediate plug-and-play headset audio on Windows 10 or 11, Mac OS X, Linux, Chrome OS or PS4 without installing extra software. It does not add surround processing, digital inputs or any features beyond basic stereo playback and mono capture.
