FortiGate 120G security appliance

The FortiGate 120G is a rack-mountable security appliance built around a FortiASIC SP5 processor and FortiOS. It is designed for organisations that need consolidated threat protection and secure connectivity in a single 1U form factor.

18 GE RJ-45 and 12 SFP ports

The appliance provides 16 dedicated 1000Base-T RJ-45 ports plus one management and one HA RJ-45 port, together with four 10GBase-X SFP+ slots and eight 1000Base-X SFP slots. This fixed port mix determines whether the unit matches your network edge density and uplink requirements.

Dual AC supplies and 38 W draw

Two internal AC power supplies operating at 100-120 V and 50/60 Hz deliver full redundancy while the system typically draws 38 W. A console port, USB 3.0 Type-A port and Bluetooth LE are available for local setup and out-of-band management without consuming front-panel Ethernet ports.

Questions about this item

What throughput can I expect once the 10 Gigabit Ethernet SFP+ ports are carrying live traffic?

The FortiASIC SP5 processor handles SSL inspection and VPN encryption on the wire, so the 10G SFP+ interfaces sustain line-rate performance for threat inspection without offloading to the main CPU.

Which network standards cap the 4×10G SFP+ and 8×1G SFP interfaces in practice?

The ports negotiate 10GBase-X and 1000Base-X respectively, with FortiLink on the 10G uplinks enabling switch-style management from the same appliance.

What does the dual-supply rack unit need for physical installation?

Two AC inputs at 100-120 volt, 50/60 hertz feed the redundant supplies, while the 1U chassis mounts in a standard rack with front-to-rear airflow.
