Questions about this item

What comes in the box with the FortiGate 50G-5G and what must be purchased separately?

The appliance ships with the desktop firewall unit, an external 12 V DC power adapter for 100-240 V AC input, and five SMA antennas for the embedded 5G modem. Rack-mount brackets, SFP modules, additional SIM cards and any FortiCare or FortiGuard subscription renewals after the included three-year term are sold separately.

How do I choose between the available versions of this model?

The part number FG-50G-5G-BDL-950-36 identifies a single SKU that bundles the hardware with three years of FortiCare Premium and FortiGuard Unified Threat Protection. No alternative capacity or licence tier is listed for this product, so the only decision is whether the bundled three-year service term matches your deployment cycle.

What does the 5 Gbps firewall throughput figure mean once the unit is installed?

The 5 Gbps rating is measured with 1518-byte UDP packets through the hardware-accelerated GE ports. In production, actual throughput will vary with packet size, encryption overhead, enabled security profiles and WAN link speed; the appliance also supports 720 000 concurrent TCP sessions and 6 Mpps packet forwarding.
