The Fujitsu ScanSnap iX500 is a new duplex document scanner built around a CIS sensor and 3-colour LED light source. It targets offices and home workers who need fast double-sided capture of paper up to 8.5 by 14.17 inches. A USB 3.0 port and IEEE 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi give two ways to connect without extra cables. The 6.62 lb chassis fits on a typical desk at 11.5 by 6.2 by 6.6 inches.

25 ppm duplex speed at 300 dpi

The single specification that decides fit is the rated throughput: 25 pages per minute in normal mode at colour 150 dpi or monochrome 300 dpi, simplex or duplex. Best mode reaches 600 dpi colour at the same 25 ppm, while excellent mode drops to 7 ppm for 600 dpi colour and 1200 dpi monochrome. Buyers who need sustained high-resolution archival runs above 7 ppm will find the throughput insufficient.

Bundled software enables searchable PDFs
