Questions about this item

Does this watch need a phone running Android or iOS to set up and sync activities?

Yes, the Forerunner 165 pairs with Android or iOS via Bluetooth and the Garmin Connect app to complete initial setup, receive smart notifications and upload completed workouts.

Can I keep using my existing ANT+ heart-rate strap or foot pod with the Forerunner 165?

The watch includes ANT+ connectivity, so compatible ANT+ sensors such as heart-rate straps, foot pods or bike speed/cadence sensors will pair directly without needing the phone.

How can I confirm the GPS is recording accurately on my first outdoor run?

After starting a GPS activity, wait for the satellite icon to turn solid, then check that the on-screen pace and distance update smoothly; the track can be reviewed in Garmin Connect afterward.
