What this watch is and who it suits

The Garmin Forerunner 165 is a GPS running smartwatch with a 1.2" AMOLED touchscreen and up to 11 days of battery life in smartwatch mode. It offers wrist-based heart rate, Pulse Ox blood oxygen monitoring and built-in multi-band GNSS support for GPS, GLONASS and GALILEO. The 43 mm case fits wrists from 126 mm to 203 mm circumference and provides 5 ATM water resistance.

Check your phone and wrist before ordering

The watch pairs with Android and iOS devices via Bluetooth and ANT+ for notifications, data sync and Connect IQ apps. Verify that your phone OS version supports the current Garmin Connect app. Ensure your wrist circumference falls within the 126 mm to 203 mm range for a secure fit. The 4 GB internal storage holds music and activity records without a phone.

Ideal for daily runners.

Runners who want a lightweight watch with bright AMOLED display, multi-GNSS accuracy and two-week battery saver mode will benefit. Triathletes needing open-water swim metrics or athletes requiring multi-day expedition battery beyond 20 days should look elsewhere. The 5 ATM rating suits pool swimming and showering but not high-pressure water sports or scuba diving.

Questions about this item

What comes in the box and do I need to buy a charging cable or heart-rate strap separately?

The watch ships with the Forerunner 165 unit and a proprietary charging/data cable; the Garmin Elevate wrist heart-rate monitor is built in so no separate strap is required.

How do I choose between smartwatch, battery-saver and GPS battery modes for my training week?

Smartwatch mode gives up to 11 days, battery-saver mode extends to 20 days, GPS-only GNSS lasts up to 19 hours and all-systems GNSS up to 17 hours — pick the mode that matches your longest workout.

What does the 1.2 inch 390 x 390 AMOLED screen mean for outdoor visibility?

The 30.4 mm diameter AMOLED panel at 390 x 390 pixels delivers bright, high-contrast readouts in direct sunlight while the ambient light sensor auto-adjusts brightness.
