HDMI 2.0 extender for 40 m runs

The Gefen GTB-UHD600-HBTL extends full-bandwidth HDMI 2.0 signals with HDR up to 40 metres over a single CAT-5e or better cable. It delivers 18.2 Gbps throughput at a 600 MHz TMDS clock, the highest rate specified under the HDMI 2.0 standard. The unit supports 4K Cinema-DCI 4096 x 2160 and 4K Ultra HD 3860 x 2160 at 60 Hz 4:4:4 colour sampling. Integrators and AV installers use it where source and display cannot sit side by side.

Replaces shorter copper HDMI cables

Standard passive HDMI cables lose signal integrity beyond a few metres at 18.2 Gbps, forcing a drop to lower resolutions or chroma subsampling. This extender keeps full 4:4:4 colour and HDR metadata intact at the full 40 metre distance. The jump is worth it when the install requires 4K 60 Hz 4:4:4 with HDR and the cable path exceeds reliable passive-cable length. It also carries 1080p, WUXGA 1920 x 1200, 3DTV and Deep Colour without compression artefacts.

Check CAT-5e cabling and HDCP version

Verify the site cable is certified CAT-5e or better and terminated correctly for the 40 metre run. Confirm the source and sink both support HDCP 2.2 for protected 4K HDR content; the extender also falls back to HDCP 1.4 for legacy devices. Ensure the source can output 600 MHz TMDS clock and 18.2 Gbps data rate for the highest resolutions. Audio formats up to 7.1 channel LPCM and HBR bitstream such as Dolby Atmos pass through transparently.

Questions about this item

What cable type and maximum distance does the GTB-UHD600-HBTL require for a 4K 60 Hz 4:4:4 HDR signal?

Use a single CAT-5e or better cable up to 40 metres (132 feet) to carry the full 18.2 Gbps HDMI 2.0 stream with HDR.

Which connectors must be linked during installation, and what common step is missed?

Connect the transmitter HDMI input to the source, the receiver HDMI output to the display, and link the two units with the CAT cable; the step often missed is powering both units before verifying the HDCP 2.2 handshake.

When will the HDBaseT link need attention or replacement?

The link itself has no scheduled maintenance; plan to replace the CAT-5e cable if physical damage occurs or if a future source requires bandwidth beyond the 18.2 Gbps / 600 MHz ceiling of this extender.
