Connection compatibility

This Toslink digital optical cable is built to connect a Polk Audio Signa S1, S2 or S3 ultra-slim sound bar to a TV, disc player or other source with a matching optical port. It uses male-to-male connectors and a 6 ft length that suits typical living-room layouts. Buyers who need a longer run or a different connector type will not be served by this cable.

Signal integrity

Optical fibre carries the audio signal with light, so the link is immune to radio-frequency interference, electromagnetic interference and ground-loop noise. The 5.0 mm outer diameter protects the fibre while keeping the cable flexible enough for tight bends behind furniture. No electrical shielding is required because the medium itself rejects the common noise sources that affect copper interconnects.

Thermal and power profile

As a passive fibre-optic cable it draws no power and generates no heat during operation. There are no active electronics, fans or converters inside the moulded plugs, so the link adds zero acoustic noise and places no load on the source or sound-bar power supplies. The cable simply transmits light from end to end without any thermal or electrical impact on the system.

Questions about this item

What does the 6 ft length mean when I connect my sound bar?

The cable spans up to 1.8 metres between your TV and the Polk Audio Signa sound bar, giving enough slack for typical living-room layouts without excess coil.

How does the Toslink interface limit what audio formats I can send?

Toslink carries stereo PCM and compressed Dolby Digital or DTS bitstreams, but it cannot transport lossless multichannel formats such as Dolby TrueHD or DTS-HD Master Audio.

What physical space does the OD 5.0 cable need behind my equipment?

The 5.0 mm outer diameter fits behind most TV stands and sound-bar brackets, and the moulded male-to-male plugs seat securely in standard square Toslink ports.
