6-gallon Steel Fire-safe Trash Can

This Genuine Joe 58897CT is a 6 gal steel waste receptacle finished in black polyester baked enamel. It is designed for indoor maintenance in offices, educational settings and general-purpose areas. The can ships in a pack of six and is manufactured in the United States using recycled content.

Raised bottom limits heat transfer to floors

The raised bottom design prevents heat from reaching the floor surface if a fire starts inside the container. Steel construction will not melt or release toxic fumes during a fire event. The unit meets OSHA requirements and qualifies under NFPA Life Safety Code 101, Section 31 for fire-safe waste disposal.

13 in diameter and 14 in height fix the footprint

The can measures 13 in diameter and 14 in height, so the available floor space must accommodate those exact dimensions. Buyers who need a larger capacity or a different profile will need another model.

Questions about this item

How do I decide between the single can and the pack of six?

The 6-gallon capacity and 13-inch diameter are identical; the pack of six simply gives you six cans at once for multiple rooms or high-traffic areas.

What does the 6-gallon rating mean for daily office use?

It holds roughly a day's waste for a small workstation before needing emptying, and the 14-inch height fits under most standard desks.

What fire-safety standards does the steel construction meet?

The can meets OSHA requirements and qualifies under NFPA Life Safety Code 101, Section 31, so it will not melt or release toxic fumes in a fire.
