22" Silver Beauty Dish

The Glow Edge 22" Silver Beauty Dish is a professional light modifier designed for portrait and fashion photography. Its silver interior maximises reflectivity to produce even, high-contrast illumination with a distinctive wrap-around quality. The double parabolic reflector system blends flash directness with softbox softness. A central opaque deflector redirects light back onto the interior disk before it floods the bowl, eliminating direct hotspots on the subject.

Balcar Alien Bees Mount Compatibility

Verify that your strobe or flash head uses a Balcar White Lighting or Alien Bees mount before ordering. The beauty dish attaches directly to this specific bayonet interface, so other mount types will not fit without a separate adapter. Ensure the mounting surface on your light is clean and undamaged to achieve the secure, wobble-free connection the design intends. No electrical connections or firmware updates are involved with this passive modifier.

Aluminium Build and Daily Use

The dish is constructed from aluminium and weighs 3.2 lbs, making it light enough for frequent transport between studio and location shoots. The 22-inch diameter suits head-and-shoulder or half-figure work in confined spaces where larger softboxes are impractical. The rigid bowl holds its shape under regular handling, and the silver finish resists dulling, maintaining consistent output over time. The Balcar/Alien Bees mount locks with a simple twist, allowing quick setup and breakdown during sessions.

Questions about this item

Does the 22 inch silver beauty dish ship with a diffuser sock or grid, or must those be purchased separately?

The dish itself is the only item included; any front diffuser sock, grid or additional modifier has to be bought separately.

The mount is listed as Balcar and Alien Bees — are those two different fittings or one universal flange?

It is a single Balcar/Alien Bees mount flange that fits both systems without an adapter.

How does the 22 inch diameter and silver interior affect the light quality compared with a white interior of the same size?

The silver finish increases contrast and specular highlights while the 22 inch bowl keeps the wrap suited to head and shoulder or half figure work.
