Compact storage for laptops and consoles

This portable hard drive adds 120 GB of extra space through a single USB 3.0 cable. It draws power from the host port, so no separate adapter is needed. The drive arrives formatted for Mac OS and works with Windows after a quick reformat.

5400 RPM spindle speed

The internal disk spins at 5400 RPM, which determines sustained transfer rates for large files. Peak interface bandwidth reaches 5.0 Gbps over USB 3.0, but real-world throughput follows the mechanical limit. Buyers who need faster sequential speeds should consider a solid-state alternative.

Tool-free plug-and-play setup

Connect the drive and it appears instantly on macOS, Windows, PS4 or Xbox One. The aluminium shell is slim but rigid; forced insertion or cable strain can damage the micro-USB port. Reformatting for Windows erases the factory Mac partition, so back up any pre-loaded data first.

Questions about this item

What real-world transfer speed can I expect from the 5.0 gbps USB 3.0 interface on this drive?

The 5.0 gbps figure is the USB 3.0 bus ceiling; the internal 5400 RPM mechanism will deliver lower sustained throughput in daily use.

Does the USB 3.0 port limit performance compared to the drive's native speed?

The USB 3.0 interface caps at 5.0 gbps, which is well above what the 5400 RPM drive can sustain, so the connection is not the bottleneck.

Will the 2.5 inch form factor fit in a standard laptop drive bay or enclosure?

The drive uses a 2.5 inch form factor and an ultra-slim aluminium chassis, matching the dimensions of typical laptop internal bays and portable enclosures.
