Six-Pack Outdoor Volume Controls

The Acoustic Audio AAOVCD-G set provides six passive dial volume controls built for outdoor and whole-house audio installations. Each unit handles 150 watts per channel and works with 4, 8, and 16-ohm speaker configurations. The weatherproof grey ABS housing is designed for exposed locations such as patios, gardens, or commercial retail spaces. Independent grounds allow compatibility with virtually any amplifier using raw speaker wire outputs.

Simple Low-Voltage Installation

The low-voltage passive design installs easily for both DIY enthusiasts and professional installers using standard tools. Each housing measures 2.75" x 4.5" x 2.75" and includes four screw holes plus a 1-inch PVC fitting for wire entry. Connections accept wire up to 14 gauge and require CL3-rated in-wall speaker cable for all runs. Shorting bars must be positioned correctly using the included reference chart to match speaker impedance to the amplifier load.

Passive Impedance Constraints

Because these are passive controls, they rely on shorting bars to present the correct impedance to the amplifier when driving multiple speaker pairs. The dial provides 12 attenuation steps with a true first off position for complete signal cutoff. Improper shorting bar placement can create an unsafe load for the amplifier, so the reference chart must be followed precisely. The system requires an amplifier with raw speaker wire outputs and cannot function with line-level or pre-amp connections.

Questions about this item

How can I confirm the volume control is functioning correctly after installation?

Turn the dial through all 12 attenuation steps; the first position should mute the speaker completely and each subsequent step should increase volume smoothly without distortion.

What does the package contain and what additional items are required for installation?

The box includes six outdoor passive dial speaker volume controls with shorting bars and an instruction manual with a shorting bar reference chart; you must supply CL3-rated in-wall speaker wire up to 14 gauge and a home audio receiver or amplifier with raw speaker wire outputs.

Which impedance setting should I choose for my 8-ohm outdoor speakers?

Set the shorting bars to the 8-ohm position; the control handles 4, 8, and 16-ohm speakers and up to 150 watts per channel, so the 8-ohm setting matches your speakers and ensures proper impedance matching.
