Smart outdoor camera with floodlight

The Google Nest Cam with Floodlight is a wired surveillance camera designed for exterior home security. It combines 1080p HDR video with a built-in floodlight that activates automatically when important activity is detected. The system distinguishes between people, animals, and vehicles to reduce unwanted alerts. It is intended for homeowners who want integrated lighting and intelligent detection without a mandatory subscription.

Simple wired setup with local backup

Installation requires a wired power connection and a stable Wi-Fi network linked to a free Google Account. The camera stores up to an hour of recorded events locally if Wi-Fi or power fails, so short outages do not create gaps in coverage. Setup is managed entirely through the Google Home app; the device is not compatible with the older Nest app. Buyers without existing doorbell wiring or a nearby outdoor outlet may need professional electrical work.

App-dependent features and subscription limits

Live 24/7 streaming, mobile notifications, and remote control all require working internet and Wi-Fi. Without a subscription, the system provides only 3 hours of free event video history. A Nest Aware Plus subscription unlocks 10 days of 24/7 recording and 60 days of event history. Familiar face detection is also subscription-gated and unavailable in Illinois. Continuous recording and extended cloud storage are not possible on the free tier.
