Google Nest Temperature Sensor 2nd Gen Porcelain

Room-Specific Temperature Control

The Nest Temperature Sensor (2nd gen) targets hot and cold spots by measuring the temperature in a chosen room. It sends that reading to a compatible Nest thermostat so the system can heat or cool based on where you actually spend time. The sensor is battery powered for simple placement without wiring. It works with the Nest Learning Thermostat (4th gen), Nest Learning Thermostat (3rd gen) and Nest Thermostat E.

Compatibility Check Before Ordering

Verify that you already own one of the supported Nest thermostats listed above; the sensor cannot operate as a standalone controller. Confirm the thermostat firmware is up to date so it can recognise the new sensor during pairing. Ensure you have a stable Wi-Fi connection in the target room for reliable communication. No additional hub or bridge is required beyond the thermostat itself.

Upgrade From Single-Point Sensing

This sensor replaces reliance on the thermostat's built-in sensor alone, which only reads the hallway or wall where the thermostat is mounted. The jump is worth it when rooms far from the thermostat feel consistently too warm or too cool. It also helps households that want the bedroom temperature prioritised at night and the living area prioritised during the day. Multi-story homes with one thermostat benefit most.
