Portable Thermo-Hygrometer for Outdoor Use

The GoveeLife H5171 is a compact 2-in-1 thermometer and hygrometer built for hikers, campers and gardeners who need reliable environmental readings on the move. Its pocket-sized design and included nylon lanyard let you clip it to a backpack, stroller or golf bag for constant monitoring. The device operates as a standalone display or connects via Bluetooth to a smartphone app for remote alerts.

IP65 Rating and Bluetooth Range Limits

The unit carries an IP65 rating, meaning it resists dust ingress and low-pressure water jets such as rain or splashes, but it must not be submerged. Wireless connectivity reaches a maximum of 196 ft (60 m) only in open, unobstructed conditions; walls, foliage or other obstacles will reduce the effective range and can interrupt data transmission to the app.

Simple Setup with Battery and Mounting Notes

Power comes from two user-supplied AAA alkaline batteries, which the manufacturer states can last up to a year in Bluetooth mode, so no charging cable is required. Pairing with the GoveeLife app takes seconds, after which you can set custom temperature and humidity thresholds. The only common issue is reduced signal stability when the device is placed behind thick walls or metal structures.

Questions about this item

The spec sheet lists ±0.54 accuracy — does that apply to both temperature and humidity?

The ±0.54 figure covers temperature in Fahrenheit; humidity accuracy is ±3 %RH, so both readings share the same high-precision rating.

In everyday use, what does the 2-second sampling rate actually tell me?

It means the display and app refresh every two seconds, catching rapid shifts like a sudden rain shower or a greenhouse heater cycling on.

The unit is rated IP65 — what does that cap in real conditions?

IP65 certifies full dust protection and resistance to water jets from any direction, but the maker notes it must not be submerged.
