Vehicle Spot Mirror

The Grote 12173 is an eight-inch round convex spot mirror designed for driver or passenger side mounting on commercial and fleet vehicles. Its offset ball-stud design positions the reflective surface away from the mounting point to widen the field of view around blind spots. The glass mirror sits in a stainless steel backing with a black finish for corrosion resistance. This unit is sold new and intended as a direct replacement or add-on safety accessory.

Mounting Compatibility

Verify that the vehicle’s existing mirror arm or bracket accepts a ball-stud mount with the same thread pattern and offset geometry before ordering. The convex glass is fixed and does not offer heated or motorized adjustment, so ensure the installation location does not require powered movement or defrost capability. Confirm the eight-inch diameter fits the available space without interfering with the primary mirror housing or body panels.

Fixed Convex Optics

The permanently convex glass expands peripheral vision without electronic controls, reducing the need for manual repositioning while driving. Stainless steel backing resists rust in road-salt environments, and the black coating minimizes glare from trailing headlights. Because the mirror lacks heating elements, ice or condensation must be cleared manually in cold weather. The ball-stud attachment allows a single installer to secure the unit with basic hand tools.

Questions about this item

Does the Grote 12173 mirror ship with mounting hardware or must that be purchased separately?

The mirror is supplied as a single unit with its offset ball-stud mount integral; no separate bracket is included in the box.

What distinguishes the 8 inch offset ball-stud version from other Grote spot mirrors?

This model combines an 8 inch convex glass diameter with a fixed offset ball-stud mount, whereas other Grote mirrors may use flat glass, different diameters or a swivel arm.

How does the 8 inch convex glass affect the driver’s field of view on the road?

The convex surface widens the viewing angle so adjacent lanes appear closer to the mirror edge, reducing blind-spot area without electronic adjustment.
