Adds a 10/100/1000Mbps Ethernet port over USB 3.0 with driver-free setup on Windows 10 and Chrome OS
The HANNORD USB 3.0 to Gigabit Ethernet Adapter adds a standard RJ45 port to devices that lack one, such as ultrabooks, MacBook Air models, Surface Pro tablets or a Nintendo Switch. It connects through a USB 3.0 male plug and delivers 10/100/1000Mbps wired performance over the 5Gbps bus, with backward compatibility down to USB 2.0 and 1.1. Link and activity LEDs show connection status at a glance.
The aluminium alloy housing acts as a heatsink, so the adapter runs silently without a fan while drawing power directly from the USB port. Typical operation stays within the 5V USB supply, keeping cable clutter to a minimum. Driver installation is required for Windows 7, Vista, XP, macOS and Linux kernels 2.6 or 3.x, while Chrome OS and Windows 10, 8.1 and 8 support plug-and-play.
Sustained file copies, video streams or gaming sessions benefit from the wired link’s consistent latency and immunity to wireless interference. The adapter supports IEEE 802.3, 802.3u and 802.3ab standards, plus suspend mode and remote wake-up via magic packet or link-up. It is not compatible with ARM-based Windows such as Surface RT or Surface 2, nor with Android or Windows RT devices.

| Ports & slots | |
|---|---|
| Thunderbolt 3 support | No |
| First connector | 1x USB 3.0 male |
| Second connector | 1x 1 Gbit/s Ethernet female |
Plug the USB 3.0 male connector into a USB 3.0 port. On Windows 7, XP, Vista, Mac OS, or Linux you must install the driver first, then reboot before connecting the adapter; skipping the reboot is the common mistake.
The adapter has no moving parts or user-serviceable components. If the USB 3.0 male plug or RJ45 female port becomes physically damaged, the whole unit must be replaced.
Throughput is capped by the USB 3.0 bus at 5 Gbps and the Gigabit Ethernet link at 1000 Mbps, so the 1000 Mbps network ceiling is reached before the USB bus saturates.
