Hanwha Techwin 16-Channel 8MP Recorder

The Hanwha Techwin HRX-1634 is a new 16-channel pentabrid recorder designed for installations that mix analogue and IP cameras. It accepts AHD, HDTVI, HDCVI, CVBS and IP signals on 16 BNC inputs and supports up to 8MP resolution per channel. The unit includes a 12TB hard drive and is suited for small to medium commercial or residential surveillance systems.

Capacity and recording limits

Two internal SATA bays each support up to 6TB, giving a maximum raw capacity of 12TB. Recording performance scales with resolution: 8MP streams at 8fps, 5MP at 12fps, 4MP at 15 or 12fps, and 2MP at 30 or 25fps. The 128Mbps total throughput and 18-channel aggregate limit mean very high-resolution multi-camera deployments will hit bandwidth or channel ceilings before storage fills.

Build, connectors and daily operation

The chassis measures 370.0 x 44.0 x 320mm and weighs approximately 4.5kg with one drive fitted. Rear I/O provides one RJ-45 network port, 16 BNC video inputs, HDMI and VGA monitor outputs, and a single RCA audio input. Dual-monitor expand mode allows separate views on each display. P2P QR-code connection simplifies remote access without port forwarding. The recorder operates from 0°C to 40°C at 20–85% RH.

Questions about this item

Will the HRX-1634 work with my existing AHD, HDTVI, HDCVI or CVBS analogue cameras?

Yes, the 5-in-1 Pentabrid design accepts AHD, HDTVI, HDCVI and CVBS signals on the 16 BNC inputs alongside IP cameras, so older analogue cameras can stay in place.

How can I verify the recorder is capturing at the advertised 8MP resolution after installation?

Check the live view or playback on the HDMI or VGA output; the OSD shows the active resolution and frame rate, and the recording menu confirms 8MP streams are being written to the SATA drives.

Does the box include the 12 TB of storage mentioned in the title, or must I buy hard drives separately?

The package contains only the NVR unit; the two SATA bays support up to 6 TB per drive, so you need to purchase and install the hard drives yourself.
