120GB 7200 RPM laptop drive

This HGST Travelstar 7K200 is a 2.5-inch internal hard drive with a 120GB capacity and a 7200 RPM spindle speed. It connects via a SATA 1.5Gb/s interface and includes 16MB of cache. The drive uses third-generation PMR technology and is supplied as a bare drive in new condition.

Suits older SATA laptops needing speed

This drive suits owners of legacy notebooks that accept a 2.5-inch SATA 1.5Gb/s drive and want the responsiveness of 7200 RPM. It is not for systems requiring a SATA 3Gb/s or 6Gb/s interface for full performance. Buyers needing larger capacities or solid-state speeds should look elsewhere.

SATA 1.5Gb/s interface decides fit

The single specification that decides compatibility is the SATA 1.5Gb/s interface. Your laptop must support this first-generation SATA link to use the drive. If the system only accepts a newer SATA revision without backward compatibility, this drive will not work.

Questions about this item

How does the 7200 RPM spindle speed affect sustained throughput on this 2.5" drive?

The 7200 RPM rotation reduces average latency to 4.2 ms and keeps sequential transfers steadier than slower laptop drives.

What heat or noise should I expect when the HTS722012K9SA00 runs continuously in a laptop?

As a bare 2.5" mechanical drive it produces typical seek noise and warm-case temperatures under all-day workloads.

My laptop only has a SATA 1.5 Gb/s controller — will this Travelstar 7K200 work without an adapter?

Yes, the drive's native SATA 1.5 Gb/s interface matches that controller directly.
