What the SUNDARA is and who it suits

The HiFiMAN SUNDARA is a planar magnetic headphone with a newly developed diaphragm that is 80% thinner than the HE400 series, giving a wider frequency response that is faster and more detailed. Its circumaural ear coupling and hybrid headband with a weight spreading strap are built for comfort during long listening sessions. The all metal headband and matte black finish add durability for daily use.

Upgrading from older planar models

The thinner diaphragm replaces the heavier driver material used in earlier HE400 series headphones, so the jump is worth it when you want quicker transient response and broader frequency extension without extra weight. A new 3.5 mm connector improves cable durability compared with older terminations. Buyers who want more storage or wireless convenience will not find those features here.

Check your source and fit before ordering

The fixed 11.000 cord length means you need a source device within reach or an extension cable for desktop setups. Planar magnetic drivers often benefit from dedicated amplification, so verify your amplifier can drive the load cleanly. The over ear design requires enough head clearance for the hybrid headband, and the black finish shows fingerprints more than lighter colours.

Questions about this item

What ear-coupling style does the SUNDARA use?

The headphones are circumaural, meaning the pads fully surround each ear for a sealed fit.

How is the detachable cable attached to the earcups?

Each earcup has a 3.5 mm socket; plug the cable straight in until it clicks to avoid intermittent contact.

Which part of the headband is most likely to need replacement after extended use?

The weight-spreading strap under the metal band can wear out and is the usual service item.
