What this adapter does

The HOWJIM E01 connects Lightning headphones to a USB-C port while passing through up to 60 W of charging power and 480 Mbps of data bandwidth. It is aimed at owners of recent iPhone, iPad or MacBook models who want to keep using wired Lightning audio gear.

The deciding specification

This adapter does not support OTG functions such as external drives or keyboards, so it will not work for accessory expansion. It provides a built-in DAC for digital-to-analogue conversion and carries microphone and inline-control signals from compatible Lightning headsets.

Who it suits and who it doesn't

It suits users who need simultaneous charging, data sync and wired audio through a single USB-C socket. Buyers who require OTG host capability for storage or input devices should look at a different adapter.

Questions about this item

What does the 60 W power delivery actually give me when I plug this into my laptop?

It lets the adapter pass up to 20 V at 3 A to your device, so a compatible phone or tablet can charge at full speed while you listen.

The spec says 480 Mbps — what does that limit in daily use?

Data moves at USB 2.0 rates, fast enough for syncing music or backups but too slow for video output or large file transfers.

Will the 16.4 mm by 33.2 mm body block the port next to it on a MacBook?

The ultra-compact dongle is only 16.4 mm wide and 33.2 mm long, leaving adjacent ports free on most laptops.
