17.3" HD+ Touch Laptop for Business

The HP 17.3" HD+ Touch Laptop pairs an Intel Core 5 120U processor with 16GB DDR4 memory and a 1TB SSD. A 1600 x 900 anti-glare touchscreen and Windows 11 Pro support daily productivity and multitasking. The Natural Silver chassis includes a full-size backlit keyboard with numeric keypad. Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.4 handle wireless connectivity.

Thermals Noise and Power Draw

The 10-core, 12-thread Core 5 120U operates at up to 5.0 GHz with a 12 MB L3 cache inside a 0.81" thin chassis. Integrated Intel Graphics share system memory, keeping heat output modest for office workloads. A 41 Wh battery supplies mobile power while the fan profile stays quiet during typical document and web tasks. The 4.8 lb weight reflects the slim thermal design.

Upgrade Path and Value

This configuration replaces older 17-inch clamshells that lack touch input, backlit keyboards or modern wireless standards. The jump is worth it when you need a larger touchscreen for annotations, 16GB DDR4 for heavier multitasking, and Wi-Fi 6 for congested offices. Buyers who want more storage than 1TB or discrete graphics for creative rendering should look elsewhere.

Questions about this item

How do I open the 17.3" laptop to add more DDR4 memory and what step do people miss?

Remove the bottom screws, lift the panel carefully to avoid the ribbon cable, then insert the DDR4 module at an angle until it clicks; many forget to reconnect the battery cable before closing the case.

Which component will need replacement first during the laptop's life?

The 41 Wh battery will degrade before the 1 TB NVMe SSD or 16 GB DDR4 memory, typically after several hundred charge cycles.

What limits sustained performance on the Intel Core 5 120U during long workloads?

The 15 W base power and shared Intel Graphics thermal envelope throttle clocks before the 5.0 GHz turbo can be maintained continuously.
