HP Smart Array P400i Controller Battery Pack

This HP 398648-001 battery pack is designed for HP Smart Array P400i controllers. It provides 4.8V and 500mAh capacity to maintain cache data during power loss. Server administrators use it to protect RAID configurations on compatible ProLiant systems. The unit installs directly onto the controller board.

Replacement battery restores cache backup function

The battery pack replaces a depleted unit without requiring a cable connection. It ensures the controller can flush write-cache to disk after an unexpected shutdown. Administrators who need redundant power for the cache module will find this part essential. Systems lacking a functional battery cannot guarantee data integrity during outages.

Questions about this item

How often will the 4.8V 500mAh battery pack need replacement on the Smart Array P400i?

The 4.8V 500mAh battery is a consumable component; plan to replace it every few years or when the controller reports a degraded charge state.

What is the first limit reached under sustained write load with the battery-backed cache?

The 500mAh capacity limits how long cached data is preserved during a power loss; extended outages will exhaust the battery first.
