10 Gb short-range transceiver

This HP X2 module adds a 10 Gb Ethernet link over multimode fibre. It plugs into a compatible X2 slot on Cisco or HP switches and routers. The part carries model number 459006-B21 and is supplied new.

Suited for 10 Gb uplinks on legacy X2 gear

Network teams extending older chassis that still use the X2 form factor will find this module fits directly. Environments that have moved to SFP+ or QSFP sockets cannot use it without a media converter or chassis upgrade.

X2 form factor decides compatibility

The module is built to the X2 multisource agreement, so it only works in ports designed for that larger footprint. Verify the host device lists X2 support before ordering.

Questions about this item

How much power does the HP 459006-B21 X2 module draw when running continuously?

The module operates within the standard X2 form-factor power envelope for 10 Gb short-range links, so typical draw stays in the low-watt range during all-day use.

What switch port type must I already have to install this 459006-B21 module?

You need an available X2 transceiver slot on a switch or router that supports 10 Gb Ethernet Base-SR optics.

Will this HP 459006-B21 work alongside legacy 1 Gb line cards in the same chassis?

Yes, the module negotiates 10 Gb speeds on its own port while other slots continue running at their native 1 Gb rates.
