A PCIe 2.0 x8 network adapter adds two 10 GbE ports with FlexFabric virtualization for HP servers
This HP 649870-001 FlexFabric network adapter adds two 10 gigabit Ethernet ports to compatible HP servers through a PCI Express 2.0 x8 slot. It targets data-centre administrators who need high-throughput connectivity for virtualisation, storage traffic or network segmentation without replacing existing infrastructure.
The card draws power directly from the PCI Express bus and relies on the server's internal airflow for cooling. No independent fan or external power connector is present, so acoustic output and thermal contribution remain governed by the host chassis design rather than the adapter itself.
FlexFabric technology enables hardware-assisted virtualisation and network segmentation on the Emulex processor, allowing multiple logical networks to share the two physical ports. This reduces cable count and switch-port usage while preserving bandwidth isolation for each workload running on the server.

Insert the card into a compatible x8 or wider slot, secure the bracket screw, then attach both SFP+ cables or modules before powering on.
The two SFP+ transceivers or direct-attach cables are the only field-replaceable parts; the Emulex processor and board are not user-serviceable.
The PCI Express 2.0 x8 host interface limits aggregate bandwidth to roughly 16 Gb/s, so combined port throughput cannot exceed that ceiling.
