SKU CH-C5BY-YXGJ3

Eight-channel SAS host bus adapter with 6 Gb/s throughput on a PCIe 2.0 x8 interface for G8 servers

  • 8-channel SAS connectivity for dense storage expansion
  • PCIe 2.0 x8 host interface for server integration
  • 6 Gb/s per port throughput for high-speed data transfer
  • Designed for G8 server compatibility and deployment

HP H221 SAS Host Bus Adapter

The HP H221 is a 6Gb/s 8-channel SAS host bus adapter that connects to a server via a PCIe 2.0 x8 slot. It is designed for HP G8 platforms and provides eight external SAS lanes for attaching storage enclosures or direct-attached drives. The card adds high-speed serial-attached SCSI connectivity to compatible systems.

Not for non-HP or non-G8 servers

This adapter targets administrators expanding SAS connectivity on supported HP Gen8 hardware. It will not suit builders using non-HP chassis, newer Gen9 or later servers, or systems lacking a PCIe 2.0 x8 slot. Buyers needing internal RAID functions or different bracket styles should evaluate other options.

Questions about this item

What maintenance will the H221 6Gb/S 8Channel PCIe 2.0 x8 SAS Host Bus Adapter need over time?

The adapter has no moving parts and requires no scheduled maintenance; keep the server air filters clean so airflow over the card remains steady.

What limit appears first when the H221 adapter runs sustained workloads?

The PCIe 2.0 x8 host link caps sustained throughput at the bus level before the eight 6Gb/S SAS lanes saturate.
