Server Console Switch with Tiering

The HP AF623A is a KVM console switch that consolidates keyboard, video, mouse and serial control for servers and network devices. It operates without requiring software installation on target systems and uses CAT5 UTP cabling for flexible routing and custom lengths. Tiering support allows management of up to 256 servers from a single console.

Suited For and Not Suited For

This switch suits administrators who need local, software-free control of mixed Windows, Linux, Unix and network hardware through one console. It also suits environments integrating with an IP Console switch for remote access. Buyers needing multi-user simultaneous access or digital video connectors such as HDMI or DisplayPort should look elsewhere.

Tiering Capacity

The tiering architecture supports a maximum of 256 connected servers from one KVM console. This figure determines whether the switch scales to the size of the server room or data centre being managed.

Questions about this item

Will the AF623A tier with my older Compaq KVM switches to reach the 256-server limit?

Yes, tiering support includes legacy Compaq KVM switches so up to 256 servers can be managed from one console.

How do I verify the USB virtual media and CAC interface are active after connecting the AF623A?

The target servers require no software; once the CAT5 UTP link is up the console shows keyboard, video, mouse, virtual media and CAC devices immediately.

Does the AF623A shipment include CAT5 UTP cables for the server links, or must I supply them?

CAT5 UTP cables are not included; they must be purchased separately for each server connection.
