HP EliteBook 840 G3 14" FHD laptop

The HP EliteBook 840 G3 is a 14.0" FHD laptop powered by an Intel Core i5-6300U dual-core processor with 8GB DDR3 memory and a new 500GB SSD. It runs Windows 10 Home 64-bit and suits professionals who need a reliable business device for everyday office tasks, web browsing and video calls.

Installation and common issues

The laptop arrives with Windows 10 already installed so first boot is straightforward. Memory upgrades use the two available slots and support up to 32 GB total. The 2.5" SATA SSD is user-replaceable but requires a small screwdriver and care not to damage the connector.

Sustained load behaviour

Under continuous workloads the Intel HD Graphics 520 and dual-core CPU run at base or turbo frequencies depending on thermal headroom. The chassis manages heat for typical business applications without throttling during short bursts. Extended compile or render sessions may see reduced clocks as temperatures rise.

Questions about this item

How do I verify the Intel Core i5-6300U runs at its 3.00 GHz turbo frequency after setup?

Open Task Manager, select the Performance tab, choose CPU, and watch the speed reading climb to 3.00 GHz when a single-threaded load is applied.

Which accessories are included and which must be purchased separately for the EliteBook 840 G3?

The laptop, a 65 W AC adapter, and a UK power cord ship in the box; a docking station, external monitor, or spare battery are sold separately.

Should I choose the 500 GB SSD configuration or plan to upgrade to the 32 GB memory limit?

The 500 GB SATA SSD handles the OS and core apps; if you run virtual machines or large datasets, add a second DDR3 module up to the 32 GB maximum.
