HP EliteBook 840 G3 14 FHD Laptop

This HP EliteBook 840 G3 is a 14.0-inch Full HD laptop powered by an Intel Core i5-6300U processor running at 2.40 GHz with a 3.00 GHz turbo frequency. It includes 8GB of DDR3 memory and a new 1TB M.2 NVMe PCIe solid-state drive. The unit ships with no operating system installed.

Business users needing a portable 14 display

The dual-core processor and integrated Intel HD Graphics 520 suit office applications, web browsing and video conferencing. Buyers who require a pre-installed Windows licence, a touchscreen panel, discrete graphics for 3D workloads or more than 8GB of memory out of the box should consider other configurations. The memory slots support up to 32 GB total capacity.

1TB M.2 NVMe PCIe solid-state drive

The factory-fitted 1TB M.2 NVMe PCIe drive provides the primary storage volume and determines boot speed and application load times. Verify that your intended operating system includes NVMe drivers or can load them during installation. No 2.5-inch hard-drive bay is populated in this unit.

Questions about this item

What M.2 slot keying and length does the 840 G3 use for the 1 TB NVMe drive?

The laptop accepts an M.2 2280 NVMe module; the factory-installed 1 TB drive uses that form factor and a PCIe interface.

Which screw must be removed before sliding the M.2 SSD into the slot, and why do people skip it?

A single retention screw secures the drive; installers often forget to insert it after seating the module, leaving the SSD loose.

How many SODIMM slots are free for a future DDR3 upgrade?

Two slots exist in total; with 8 GB already fitted, one slot remains open for adding another DDR3 module up to the 32 GB maximum.
