Business-ready 14 laptop

The HP EliteBook 840 G3 is a 14.0 inch business laptop built around an Intel Core i5-6300U processor with two cores and four threads. It ships with 8GB of DDR4 memory and a 1TB M.2 SATA SSD. Windows 10 Home is pre-installed on the 64-bit system. The non-touch IPS panel runs at 1366 x 768 resolution with LED backlighting.

Sustained workload behaviour

Under continuous load the dual-core Skylake CPU runs at its 2.4 GHz base frequency while the integrated Intel HD Graphics 520 shares system memory for video output. The 3 MB L3 cache helps with repeated data access during long sessions. Passive thermal management keeps the chassis within operating limits for typical office multitasking and web-based applications.

Installation and common issues

The unit arrives with charger and battery included so initial setup is limited to power-on and Windows configuration. Grade B condition means visible cosmetic blemishes such as scratches or surface imperfections are present on the chassis. Buyers who need a pristine appearance should note this constraint. The 1366 x 768 panel may feel limiting for users who rely on high-density workspace layouts.

Questions about this item

How loud or hot does the Intel Core i5-6300U get when the laptop runs all day?

The dual-core 2.4 GHz processor with 3 MB cache is a low-power design, so fan noise and surface temperature stay modest during extended office workloads.

Which cables or peripherals must I already own to use the USB 3.1 Type-C, DisplayPort and VGA outputs?

You need a USB-C cable or adapter for the Type-C port, a standard DisplayPort cable for the full-size DisplayPort, and a VGA cable for the VGA port; the laptop also includes two USB 3.0 Type-A ports for existing accessories.

Will the 1366 x 768 IPS panel and Intel HD Graphics 520 work smoothly with an older 1080p external monitor?

Yes, the integrated graphics can drive an external display at its native 1080p resolution over DisplayPort or VGA while the built-in panel remains at 1366 x 768.
