14-inch business laptop with 6th-gen i5

The HP EliteBook 840 G3 is a 14-inch laptop built for office work and mobile professionals. It runs on an Intel Core i5-6300U dual-core processor at 2.4 GHz with 8 GB of DDR3 memory. A 512 GB M.2 SATA SSD provides the system drive, while Windows 10 Home comes pre-installed.

Integrated graphics and fan noise under load

Intel HD Graphics 520 handles the 1920 x 1080 display using shared system memory, suitable for everyday productivity and video playback. The integrated GPU keeps power draw modest during typical document and browser use. Fan activity increases during sustained heavy workloads but remains subdued for standard office tasks.

Ports and accessories for desk and travel

Connectivity includes USB 3.0, USB 3.1 Type-C, full-size DisplayPort, VGA and Gigabit RJ-45 for wired networks. A 720p webcam supports video calls, while the SIM card reader enables mobile broadband options. The box contains the laptop, charger and battery; the Grade B unit shows visible cosmetic wear such as scratches.

Questions about this item

How do I install the M.2 SATA SSD, and which step is often missed?

The drive slots into the internal M.2 connector at a 30-degree angle, then secures with a single screw; the step often missed is confirming the SATA mode in BIOS so the 512GB volume appears at first boot.

What maintenance will the 8GB DDR3 memory and 512GB M.2 SATA SSD need later?

The DDR3 is soldered and cannot be upgraded; the M.2 SATA SSD is user-replaceable, so plan to swap it when SMART data shows wear or capacity runs low.

What limit appears first during sustained loads on the i5-6300U with Intel HD Graphics 520?

The dual-core 2.4 GHz CPU hits its thermal ceiling before the shared graphics memory bandwidth becomes a bottleneck.
