HP EliteBook 840 G3 14 inch laptop

The HP EliteBook 840 G3 is a 14.0 inch business laptop with a 1920 x 1080 FHD non-touch display. It runs on an Intel Core i5-6300U dual-core processor at 2.40 GHz with 3.00 GHz turbo frequency. The system includes 32GB DDR3 memory and a NEW 240GB M.2 NVMe PCIe SSD. It ships with no operating system installed.

32GB DDR3 and NEW 240GB NVMe SSD

The 32GB DDR3 memory reaches the maximum supported capacity for this model with two slots populated. The NEW 240GB M.2 NVMe PCIe SSD provides solid-state storage without a traditional hard drive. Intel HD Graphics 520 handles visual output on the FHD panel. Bluetooth and a webcam are integrated for connectivity and conferencing.

No operating system installation required

The laptop arrives with no operating system so the buyer must acquire and install Windows or another OS independently. Driver installation for Intel HD Graphics 520 and other components follows the OS setup. The 32GB memory is already at the 32 GB maximum so no further RAM upgrades are possible. The M.2 NVMe drive is installed and ready as the primary boot device.

Questions about this item

Will the 32GB DDR3 memory or the 240GB M.2 NVMe SSD need upgrading later?

The 32GB DDR3 already reaches the 32 GB maximum supported, so memory cannot be expanded. The M.2 NVMe drive can be replaced with a larger one if more storage is required.

What limits performance first during long sessions — the dual-core i5-6300U or the Intel HD Graphics 520?

The dual-core i5-6300U with 2.40 GHz base and 3.00 GHz turbo will reach its ceiling before the integrated Intel HD Graphics 520 on sustained multi-threaded workloads.

How loud or hot does the 14.0 inch EliteBook 840 G3 get when running all day?

The 14.0" chassis uses a single fan; under continuous load the i5-6300U warms the keyboard deck and the fan becomes audible, but it stays within normal ultrabook thermal limits.
