Business laptop with Skylake core

The HP EliteBook 840 G3 is a 14.0" business laptop built around an Intel Core i5-6300U dual-core processor running at 2.4 GHz. It ships with 8 GB of DDR3 memory and a 128 GB M.2 SATA SSD. The matte FHD panel resolves 1920 x 1080 and is driven by integrated Intel HD Graphics 520. Windows 10 Home is pre-installed.

Suited to office work, not heavy graphics

This machine fits professionals who need a lightweight 14-inch chassis with a full set of legacy ports — VGA, full-size DisplayPort, Gigabit RJ-45 and USB 3.1 Type-C — for docking and wired networks. Buyers who want a dedicated GPU for rendering, a touchscreen for pen input, or a larger storage volume should look at a different configuration.

128 GB M.2 SATA SSD capacity

The single specification that decides fit is the 128 GB M.2 SATA solid-state drive. It provides fast boot and application launch for a core OS and essential apps, but leaves little room for large media libraries or multiple virtual machines. Verify that this capacity matches the workload before purchase.

Questions about this item

What does the USB 3.1 Type-C port support for external displays?

The single USB 3.1 Type-C port carries DisplayPort Alternate Mode and USB 3.1 Gen 1 data at up to 5 Gbps, so it can drive one external monitor while also providing a high-speed data path for docks or storage.

What physical space does the internal M.2 SATA SSD occupy?

The 128 GB boot drive uses an M.2 2280 SATA module that sits in the dedicated internal slot; no 2.5-inch bay or caddy is required and the slot is keyed for SATA signalling only.

How is Windows 11 Pro activated after the upgrade from the pre-installed Windows 10 Home?

The upgrade is tied to the device's hardware ID; run Windows Update or the Installation Assistant, accept the licence prompt, and the Pro edition activates automatically without a separate product key.
