HP EliteBook 840 G3 14 inch HD laptop

This HP EliteBook 840 G3 is a 14 inch business laptop with an Intel Core i5-6200U processor at 2.30 GHz and 8GB DDR3 memory. A new 500GB SATA SSD provides the system drive. The 1366 x 768 non-touch display and Intel HD Graphics 520 handle everyday office work. No operating system is included.

Who this suits and who should look elsewhere

Buyers wanting a light 14 inch machine for web browsing, document editing and video calls will find the specification adequate. The dual-core CPU and 8GB RAM limit heavy multitasking or modern creative workloads. Users who need a touchscreen, a higher resolution panel or a discrete GPU should consider other models.

Storage interface decides compatibility

The 500GB drive uses a 2.5 inch SATA connection so any replacement must match that form factor and interface. The laptop supports up to 32 GB of DDR3 memory across two slots for future upgrades.

Questions about this item

What operating system must I supply for the HP EliteBook 840 G3?

The laptop ships with no operating system, so you will need to provide and install your own copy of Windows or another OS before the machine is usable.

Can the existing 500 GB 2.5" SATA SSD stay in place if I add more storage later?

The 500 GB 2.5" SATA SSD occupies the drive bay; adding a second drive would require a caddy or an M.2 slot if the board provides one, so the original SSD normally remains installed.

How can I verify the Intel HD Graphics 520 is active after I install the OS?

Open Device Manager once the OS is installed and confirm that Intel HD Graphics 520 appears under Display adapters without a warning icon.
