14-inch business laptop with i5-8350U

This 14-inch HP EliteBook 840 G5 runs Windows 10 Pro on a quad-core Intel Core i5-8350U at 1.7 GHz with 8 GB DDR4 and a 256 GB NVMe PCIe M.2 SSD. The 1920 x 1080 non-touch FHD panel uses integrated Intel UHD Graphics 620. It includes Thunderbolt 3, HDMI, Gigabit Ethernet and a webcam.

Who this suits and who should look elsewhere

Mobile professionals needing a 14.0" clamshell with Thunderbolt 3, a 1080p screen and a quad-core U-series processor will find the core spec matches. Buyers who need a touchscreen, a discrete GPU, more than 8 GB of memory or a larger display should consider other models. Grade B cosmetic blemishes mean the chassis shows scratches or shiny keys.

Deciding specification: 256 GB NVMe PCIe M.2 SSD

The single spec that decides fit is the 256 GB NVMe PCIe M.2 SSD. It sets the total storage capacity and the drive interface for the OS and applications. If your workload requires more space or a different drive format, this unit will not meet that requirement.
