Business ultraportable with quad-core i7

The HP EliteBook 840 G5 is a 14.0 inch business laptop powered by an Intel Core i7-8650U quad-core processor running at 1.9 GHz. It comes with 8 GB DDR4 memory and a 512 GB NVMe PCIe M.2 SSD. Windows 11 Pro is pre-installed. The non-touch FHD display uses LED backlighting at 1920 x 1080 resolution. Integrated Intel UHD Graphics 620 handles visual output.

Single-screw service access and port selection

The chassis uses a single-screw bottom cover for quick access to the NVMe SSD and memory slots. One USB Type-C Thunderbolt 3 port, two USB 3.1 Gen 1 ports, HDMI and Gigabit RJ-45 Ethernet provide wired connectivity. Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 8265 manages Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. The 720p webcam supports video calls. Grade B units show cosmetic scratches and possible shiny keyboard surfaces.

Sustained 15 W thermal envelope

The 15 W Kaby Lake R CPU maintains base clocks during extended workloads thanks to the dual-fan cooling system. Shared system memory for the UHD 620 GPU means graphics-heavy tasks draw from the 8 GB DDR4 pool. NVMe storage delivers consistent read speeds without thermal throttling. Battery life varies with screen brightness and workload intensity. Not suited for buyers needing discrete graphics or user-replaceable battery modules.
